The amphora from Panagyurishte is undoubtedly the masterpiece of Thracian art. It is considered, that it was used in the "twinning" ritual. Its two handles end in the form of fighting centaurs, who, according to Greek mythology, are half-human, half-horse. Three mythological scenes are represented on the walls. The central scene depicts five warriors in battle. The second scene shows two warriors in a relaxed pose divination on a liver. On the lower half of the amphora are depicted the figures of Silenus and the young Heracles in a cradle, who kills two snakes. The rhytonized amphora finds so far its closest parallel in Scythia, where a similar vessel was found, but with three holes and made of silver.
The golden ritual service includes a phial (dish) and eight rhytons (cups) with different zoomorphic and anthropomorphic forms. It is considered, that during the ritual feasts the warriors who merited the battle sat in a circle and handed each other the phials and rhytons filled with wine. The treasure belonged to an as yet unknown Thracian ruler of the Odrisi tribe, ruled at the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 3rd century BC.
